Week 1 Roundup: ParalympicsGB At The 2026 Milano Cortina Games
The 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Paralympic Games got underway this week with ParalympicsGB competing in wheelchair curling, Para Alpine skiing and Para snowboarding.
Wednesday 4th March: Day -2
Wheelchair Curling Mixed Doubles opened the competitive action at the 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Games, where ParalympicsGB’s Wheelchair Curling Mixed Doubles team, Jo Butterfield and Jason Kean, fell to a 7-10 defeat against Estonia.
Thursday 5th March: Day -1
Great Britain’s Wheelchair Curling Mixed Doubles team returned to action in sessions 2 and 3 of the round robin event, where they lost 3-14 against Korea but defeated Latvia 6-5.
Friday 6th March: Day 0
Butterfield and Kean claimed their second round robin win after they defeated the United States 5-4 in the Mixed Doubles event’s fourth session.
Saturday 7th March: Day 1
In the Para Alpine Skiing Men’s Downhill VI final, Neil Simpson and his guide, Andrew Simpson, finished 4th with a time of 1:21.31, whilst Fred Warburton and his guide, James Hannan, finished 7th with a time of 1:30.32.
Great Britain’s Wheelchair Curling Mixed Team (Hugh Nibloe, Stewart Pimblett, Austin McKenzie, Karen Aspey and Graeme Stewart) lost their opening round robin match 2-9 against Slovakia and then vs the USA (match 2).
Scott Meenagh finished 23rd, with a time of 24:54.3, in the Para Biathlon Men’s Sitting 7.5km Sprint.
In the Para Snowboard Men’s UL Snowboard Cross seeding event, James Barnes-Miller finished 5th with a best time of 52.17 whilst Davy Zyw finished 18th with a best time of 58.58.
Butterfield and Kean defeated Japan 11-2 in their fifth-round robin match to leave them joint second with Korea on 3 wins with only two more matches to go.
Sunday 8th March: Day 2
The curling mixed team fell to a tight 4-5 defeat against Canada to sit joint sixth with 1 win from 3 matches.
Scott Meenagh finished 18th, with a time of 42:59.9, in the Para Biathlon Men’s Sitting 12.5km individual final.
In the Men’s Para Snowboard UL Snowboard Cross, Davy Zyw was unable to progress from the pre-heats after he Did Not Finish (DNF) his race, but James Barnes-Miller reached the quarterfinals but didn’t progress further after finishing 4th in his race.
ParalympicsGB’s curling mixed doubles team fell to a 10-5 defeat against the currently unbeaten China to leave them joint 2nd, alongside Japan, Korea, Latvia and the United States, ahead of their final round-robin match.
