A major consolidation in the UK packaging sector has been completed with the merger of three established providers to form a new entity, Orkka Limited.

The deal, advised by BDO’s M&A team, brings together Leeds-based Hazel 4D, the transit packaging division of Acopia, and Scotland’s Kwikpac. The merger creates a unified provider of end-to-end packaging solutions, combining over 120 years of collective industry experience.

A "Northern Powerhouse" Expansion

Hazel 4D, headquartered in Leeds, was founded in 1979 and has evolved from a consumables supplier into a specialist in packaging consultancy and machinery. By joining forces with Kirkcaldy-based Kwikpac and Bognor Regis-based Acopia, the new group, Orkka, gains a significant geographic footprint stretching from the South Coast to Scotland.

The merger is designed to meet the demands of large, multi-site operations that require consistent technical support and broader distribution capabilities across the UK and internationally.

James Buckingham, Partner at BDO LLP, said: “It’s fantastic to see these three businesses based in Scotland, Yorkshire and on the South Coast join forces and become a packaging powerhouse.

“We are delighted to have advised the shareholders of Hazel, Kwikpac and Acopia on this landmark merger. This deal brings together three longstanding family-owned businesses in the packaging sector and combines their deep-rooted expertise, creating a business of scale and marking a significant event for the UK packaging industry.”

Strategic Consultancy and Sustainability

The new group will focus on a "consultancy-led" model. Rather than simply supplying materials, Orkka will provide integrated services including load stability testing, machinery maintenance, and sustainable product development.

Acopia already maintains a presence in Europe and the United States, providing a ready-made platform for Orkka to support global brands seeking to reduce waste and optimise supply chain processes.

Neil Christie, CEO of Orkka and Shareholder in Hazel 4D, added: “James Buckingham and the BDO team have been exceptional in supporting us through this transaction. Their advice, professionalism and ability to guide us through a complex process involving multiple stakeholders has been invaluable. They brought clarity, structure and momentum at every stage, helping ensure the transaction progressed smoothly and efficiently.”
