Mother’s Day is next weekend, and the search term ‘mother’s day flowers uk’ has increased by +60% in the past 30 days.

To help children and partners wanting to get their mum flowers this Mother’s Day, greetings card marketplace, thortful.com has worked with the florist, Beth Childs, to find the best flowers to tell your mum how much she means to you.

Making the ultimate Mother’s Day bouquet - here are the best flowers to gift the mum in your life:

If you want to give your mum a bouquet that signifies all the love you have for her, then you can never go wrong with roses. While two and 12 red roses signify love, white roses mean respect, and dark pink roses mean gratitude. The search term ’12 red roses meaning’ has seen a steep +5000% increase in the past 30 days - that’s a lot of people looking to show they care.

With roses, you can mix the colours in your bouquet to get one that signifies different things, such as love, happiness, respect and gratitude, all depending on the colours of your roses!

Carnations

Depending on the carnation, the bouquet could mean many different things. While the flower itself symbolises fascination and love, it has different meanings depending on its colour. Red carnations mean admiration, while white carnations can mean innocence and pure love. These two colours are wonderful additions to your bouquet. Carnations also have more meanings, such as purple for capriciousness and pink for ‘I’ll never forget you’!

Calla Lilies

A beautiful flower that stands out from the rest, calla lilies’ symbolism depends on their colour! If you want to include calla lilies in your Mother’s Day bouquet, yellow calla lilies, or purple calla lilies would be a great choice. Yellow symbolises gratitude, while the purple calla lilies mean admiration.

In addition to this, you have gerbera daisies, which in florigraphy means cheerfulness and loyal love. This flower is a vibrant addition to liven up your ultimate Mother’s Day bouquet!

Why not pick local flowers?

Florist Beth Childs recommends adding more locally sourced flowers you can find in Britain.

Beth says:
“There has been a real shift from the topical flowers/foliage (Eucalypts/Protea) to wild, dainty, loosely styled flowers. Butterfly Ranunculus and Variegated Pittosporum are having a real moment. I think this is due to the huge shift towards using more sustainable, British-grown flowers.

"The flowers to add to a bouquet that signifies your love for the receiver, it would always have to be roses, pretty garden ones.

"Another flower that could fit well in your Mother’s Day bouquet is a mixed coloured bunch of stocks, they have a fresh homely smell and always seem to be a firm favourite at Mother’s Day.”

Commenting on the ultimate bouquet for Mother’s Day, Gifting Manager at thortful, Amber Welch, says:
“A bouquet is a wonderful way of showing your mum how much you appreciate and love her. At thortful, we’ve got an array of thoughtful cards and wonderful flowers available for every kind of mum this Mother’s Day, which get delivered straight to their door!”
