Specialist Invests In Hazardous Waste Facility In Blackburn
Waste management specialist CSG has completed the construction of a new hazardous waste storage facility in Blackburn.
CSG Recovery, part of the wider CSG group, has added the 20m2 covered unit to its existing Stanley Street site, with building work completed in the last few weeks.
The new storage facility allows the business to store, consolidate and repackage hazardous waste, before it is sent to recovery facilities elsewhere in the UK or in Europe.
The majority of the incoming waste is damaged or out-of-date confidential products sent from retailers, including bleaches, acids and solvents.
Greg said: “We can now receive hazardous waste in bulk, primarily from retailers, and we will safely repackage those materials for treatment elsewhere.
“This will reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill by recovering, recycling and reusing as much material as possible.
“We acquired the Blackburn site in 2019 and have been using it for the manual dismantling and recovery of problematic products such as electric toothbrushes, e-cigarettes and pregnancy tests, as well as the processing of aerosols, oily rag by-products, clinical waste and photographic waste.
“This investment has increased our capacity for work in Blackburn and we have further plans which will improve our capabilities further, resulting in several new jobs for the local area.”
CSG Recovery has an impressive environmental record, with 95% of everything passing through Blackburn being diverted from landfill over the last year.
With more than 650 employees, CSG helps households and organisations by offering a complete variety of services ranging from waste collection through to treatment, recovery and disposal of countless waste streams.
The business has been operational for more than nine decades and has experienced significant growth in recent years.
