The Hole in Wand
As a lifelong Leeds lad, I didn’t think there was much I didn’t know about the city. Then I discovered The Hole in Wand nestled right next to St John’s Park. I’d seen a glowing review from a friend, and looking for a fun date venue with my partner, decided to book its immersive wizard-themed mini golf experience.
It’s hard not to use grand cliches when you talk about this place because it lives up to all of them. “A magical world.” Tick. “Captures the imagination the moment you step inside.” Tick. “Warm, welcoming staff that remain fully in character throughout your visit.” Also tick.
There are three main attractions, the first being an emporium, The Potions Cauldron, where any self-respecting wizard would be happy to do their weekly shop. This place will be a firm hit if you want to impress your kids - not only does it offer its own range of magical potion drinks, from Cauldron Cola to Serpents Venom, it stocks a stonking range of Marvel drinks and Harry Potter treats. Throw in its magic sets, homeware, and collectibles, and there really is something for everyone.

The Hole In Wand was the main event for us - a nine-hole mini golf course with spellbinding décor, hidden surprises, and interactive elements. Players complete their journey by earning a “magical potion” at the end of the game, something that’s a real favourite among visitors. We loved the photo ops too, including the Castle of Ice and the Dragon Tunnel with its dramatic lighting. You can even ride a broomstick against a greenscreen backdrop which feels like you’re on a movie set!
If you’re hungry or thirsty after all that excitement, head to The Wand and Tankard. This quirky and characterful themed bar serves imaginative cocktails and has a range of gorgeous self-contained huts, each with their own theme, plus a chilled outdoor seating area. It has all the luxury, novelty and attentive service of private dining but without the pretence - just sheer fun! We found the prices incredibly reasonable for Leeds – the partnership with Pizza Punks is also a clever addition to their offer.
Who doesn’t love a bit of escapism? And where better to escape to than a magical world of wizardry, wonder and fun?
Oh, and cocktails.
