Young people across Cumbria are rapidly changing how they travel, as rising fuel costs continue to impact daily life.
New research from Stagecoach shows that 68% of young people in Cumbria have altered their commuting habits due to increasing petrol prices; one of the highest levels recorded across the UK.
With car ownership becoming increasingly expensive, many are turning to more cost-effective alternatives, with bus travel emerging as a practical and reliable solution.
The findings reflect the added pressures of rural and semi-rural living, where car dependency has traditionally been higher, but is now being challenged by rising costs.
Fuel prices are having a significant impact on how young people across Cumbria are choosing to travel. For many, the cost of driving is no longer sustainable.
What we’re seeing is a decisive shift towards smarter, more affordable options. Bus travel provides a reliable way to stay connected to work, education and social opportunities, without the financial burden that comes with running a car.
We are focused on delivering services that meet the needs of our communities and provide a dependable alternative people can trust.
