Accrington Stanley Vs Bolton Wanderers: Match Preview

In the Round of 16 of the EFL Trophy, Accrington Stanley host on-form Bolton Wanderers as the two lock horns again for the first time since last season's League One campaign.

It’s a good time to be a Wanderers fan as the Whites lie 2nd in the League One table, two points off leaders Portsmouth with two games in hand, and automatic promotion looks like an immense possibility for Ian Evatt’s exciting side.

Four straight League One wins were followed up by an impressive result in the FA Cup away at Premier League Luton Town, holding them to a 0-0 draw and a replay at the Toughsheet Community Stadium coming up.

Bolton are current holders of this competition after their last-season triumph at Wembley against Plymouth Argyle, so they will fancy themselves for it again as they travel to Accrington, whom they defeated in the semi-finals last season.

Accrington have been hit and miss in League Two this season after relegation from the division above and especially lately, although they maintain a solid league position of 10th and a promotion push is still surmountable.

Under the stewardship of long-time gaffer John Coleman, Accrington have always gone under the radar and against the odds, and with Bolton being the side on-form and higher up in the pyramid, Stanley causing an upset isn’t off the cards.

Bolton have won their last two visits to the WHAM Stadium, but before that, they had lost their previous three outings. The two sides have met twice before in this competition, winning one game each.

This meeting will take place on tonight with a 7:30pm kick-off.
